About us

SEAL was set up in 1982 by Friends of the Earth (Birmingham) Ltd to pilot the idea of home insulation and tackling fuel poverty in South East Sandwell. In these early days the company organised itself on a “cooperative” structure.

From its base in a refurbished “slipper baths” building at Cape Hill, Smethwick, SEAL developed its business with a “family feel” and with a local focus, installing loft insulation and draft proofing measures and giving energy advice.

The company became independent from Friends of the Earth (Birmingham) Ltd in 1986 and from that time adopted a more commercial approach to running the business but on a non-profit distributing basis i.e. profits were reinvested back into the organisation and still are today.

The Situation Today

Currently, SEAL has 25 employees and our service covers the wider East and West Midlands area. We carry out upto 100 installations every week and have a wealth of experience and expertise with in the industry. Our staff are trained to the highest standards and we adhere to the latest technical and service standards prevailing.

SEAL has all of the recognised accreditations with British Board of Agrement (BBA), Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency (CIGA), Advice UK, etc. And is a member of the National Insulation Association (NIA), and the Instafibre Consortium.

Of most importance, we recognise that our customers needs are paramount and that our main strength is in the fairness and honesty with which we approach every work contract. We want our customers to be delighted with our service and we will strive to achieve this for them.
